Chichen Itza

General Information:


This is the name of one of the cities-estates most important of the prehispanic America, it’a mayan name means “At the mouth of the well of the Magiciens of the Water” and it was one of the most powerful cities of the Mayan civilization. Its impressing buildings, prevail in this magnificent city, and has two different styles due to the fact that its construction took place in two different stages.
Towards the year 900, the ethnic-lineage group of the Itzaes introduces a new architectonic style that highlights the representation of the god-serpent Kukulcan. El Castillo or Pirámide de Kukulcán has four stairways that lead to the temple, in its interior we can find another temple buried below. Archeologists have found in the chamber of the temple a Chac Mool statue and a throne in the shape of a jaguar. This archeological site has been inscriben in the World Heritage list and declared as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Located at 120Km. From Mérida, through the highway 180 Mérida-Cancún.

History:


Chichén Viejo was founded in the from the year 435 A.C. until the year 625 A.C. The northern group or Chichén Nuevo was built between the centuries X and XI towards the year 900.
